What Makes It Special
Jackson Hole's identity is built on its expert terrain. Corbet's Couloir, accessed from the top of the aerial tram, is perhaps the most famous ski run in North America. The entry requires a mandatory air drop of three to six metres into a narrow, cliff-lined chute. It is a rite of passage for expert skiers and a regular venue for freeride competitions.
Beyond Corbet's, the mountain offers an abundance of steep chutes, tight trees, cliffs, and open bowls. The entire back side of Rendezvous Mountain and the expansive Headwall area provide genuinely challenging lines that hold snow well after storms.
However, Jackson Hole is not exclusively for experts. The Bridger Gondola accesses the Casper Bowl area and wide intermediate runs, and the resort has invested in terrain and programmes for developing skiers. The Solitude Station mid-mountain lodge and Casper Restaurant provide comfortable on-mountain dining.
The surrounding area adds enormously to the experience. Grand Teton National Park borders the resort, Yellowstone National Park is just over an hour north, and the town of Jackson retains an authentic western character with wooden boardwalks, the famous elk antler arches, and a thriving arts and dining scene.
Best For
- Expert and advanced skiers seeking steep, sustained terrain and genuine challenge
- Outdoor enthusiasts who want to combine skiing with wildlife viewing and national park experiences
- Skiers who value authentic mountain culture over polished resort glamour
Best Season
Early December to early April, with peak conditions from January through March. The Teton Range intercepts Pacific moisture, resulting in heavy, relatively dry snowfall. Storm cycles can drop significant accumulations in short periods.
Getting There
Jackson Hole Airport is unique in being located inside Grand Teton National Park, just 15 kilometres from Teton Village. It offers direct flights from major US hubs including Denver, Dallas, Chicago, and several seasonal routes. The short transfer from airport to slopes makes Jackson Hole one of the most convenient fly-in ski destinations in the country.
